Lou’s Chinese fakeaway for under £10!

I love Chinese takeaway! Here is an easy dinner you can make at home!

Prep time: Less than 5 minutes

Cooking Time: Slow cooker 4 hours on low heat

Serves: 4 people

Ingredients:

  • 4 Chicken breasts, approx one breast per person.

  • 1/2 cup of clear honey. Doesn’t have to be any fancy honey I just picked the cheapest

  • 1/4 cup of Hoisin Sauce. I like Blue Dragon’s Hoisin sauce

  • 1/2 cup of reduced salt soy sauce. Again doesn’t need to be anything fancy. I use Tesco’s own reduced salt soy sauce

  • 3-4 garlic cloves, I prefer to use fresh garlic over the paste / easy garlic. The more garlic the better in my opinion! Make sure garlic is chopped finely or use a garlic press

  • 1 red onion sliced thinly

  • 1 teaspoon of ginger - I tend to use the ginger from my spice rack. You can pick up ground ginger from supermarkets and it’ll last for ages!

Method:

  • Add all ingredients to the slow cooker. Place the chicken breasts whole and cook for 3 hours on low heat

  • After three hours take the chicken breasts out and put them on a chopping board. Use two forks to shred the chicken until all breasts are shredded and put the chicken back in the slow cooker for another hour to soak up the sauce. Feel free to taste the sauce and add more ingredients if needed to desired taste

  • Serve and enjoy!

I like to serve mine on a bed of plain white rice or in wraps.

May not look like the prettiest of meals but the flavour is unreal!
